Social Media Policy

Last updated: August 30, 2026

This Social Media Policy explains how Angela Lopez Therapy uses social media and other online platforms and how online interactions may affect privacy, confidentiality, and the therapeutic relationship.

Social media is constantly evolving, and this policy may be updated as technology, platforms, or practice policies change.

Friend and Contact Requests

To protect your privacy and confidentiality and maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries, I do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on my personal social media accounts.

Connecting through personal social media may compromise your confidentiality and blur the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship.

If you have questions or concerns about this policy, I encourage you to discuss them with me.

Professional Social Media

I may maintain professional social media accounts to share general mental health information, psychoeducational content, practice information, and resources.

You are welcome to view my professional social media content. Following or interacting with my professional accounts is entirely voluntary and is not a requirement of therapy.

Content shared through my professional social media accounts is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not therapy, medical or mental health advice, and is not a substitute for individualized professional care.

Following my professional account or interacting with its content does not establish a therapist-client relationship.

Following and Interacting

Your privacy is important. Publicly following, liking, commenting on, sharing, or otherwise interacting with a therapist's professional social media account may allow other people to see that connection.

For this reason, I encourage current and former clients to consider their own privacy before publicly interacting with my professional accounts.

I will not publicly acknowledge whether someone is a current or former client.

Direct Messages

Please do not use Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or other social-media direct messaging to communicate confidential, clinical, urgent, or emergency information.

Social media platforms are not designed for confidential clinical communication, and I cannot guarantee that messages will be seen or answered promptly.

Please use the communication methods established for the practice instead.

Searching for Clients Online

I do not routinely search for clients or prospective clients online or use social media to gather information about them.

There may be unusual circumstances in which accessing publicly available information is clinically or legally relevant, including concerns involving safety. When appropriate, this would be addressed within the therapeutic relationship.

Email and Text Communication

Email and text messaging may have privacy and security limitations. Please use the communication methods we have established for scheduling and other appropriate practice-related communication.

Social media messaging should not be used as a substitute for these communication methods.

Website

Angela Lopez Therapy maintains a professional website containing information about the practice, services, fees, resources, and ways to make contact.

You are welcome to access the website and its publicly available resources. Website content is informational and does not constitute therapy or establish a therapist-client relationship.

Location-Based Services

If you use location-based services, check-ins, tagging, or GPS-enabled social media features, please consider how sharing your location may affect your privacy.

For example, publicly checking in at or tagging a therapy office location could allow others to infer that you are receiving services there.

You are responsible for deciding how you use your own social media and location-sharing settings.

Emergencies

Social media, direct messages, website forms, and social media comments should not be used for emergencies or crisis communication.

If you are experiencing an immediate emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. You may also call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States.

Questions About This Policy

The purpose of this policy is to protect client privacy, confidentiality, and the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship while allowing the practice to maintain a professional online presence.

If you have questions or concerns about this Social Media Policy or an online interaction involving the practice, I encourage you to discuss them with me.
