Making Space for Everyone, Menos Para Ti

It can be scary to let someone walk alongside you and allow yourself to be truly seen. Hablar de nuestros miedos, nuestras pérdidas, or those deeply rooted beliefs we fear others might judge can feel incredibly vulnerable.

Sometimes we keep parts of ourselves guardados or tucked away somewhere dark where no one can see them. Porque abrir esa puerta da miedo. ¿Y si no me entienden? ¿Y si me juzgan? ¿Y si finalmente dejo que alguien esté para mí y me decepciona?

So instead, you keep showing up for everyone else.

You listen. You understand. Haces espacio para los demás. You offer love, patience, and support, sometimes while quietly wondering: ¿quién va a hacer ese espacio para mí?

Therapy asks something a little different of you. It invites you to practice being on the receiving end of that care.

And that doesn't mean contarlo todo or opening the most vulnerable parts of yourself before you're ready. Trust takes time. Poquito a poquito, you can begin noticing what feels difficult to share, what parts of yourself you've learned to protect, and what you fear might happen if someone truly saw them.

As a therapist, I don't take that vulnerability lightly. Para mí, que alguien me permita entrar a su mundo es un privilegio. Part of my responsibility is to continue doing my own work so I can meet that trust with compassion, curiosity, and humility.

You don't have to get rid of the parts of yourself that carry scars. No tienes que esconderlas, castigarlas, ni sentir vergüenza de ellas. Maybe part of the work is learning to understand them with more compassion while making room for joy, connection, and the things that truly matter to you.
